- Description
For sale is a lovely 1 inch scale 'Meg' Steam Foden Overtype Wagon, as designed and described by Barrie Neville in 'Engineering in Miniature'.
Neville describes in Part One of his build instructions that his drawings are based on a copy of original Foden 5-ton steam wagon drawings. The model is produced with a fire tube type boiler, based on a design by Mr. J. Van Riemsdijk of the Gauge 1 Association, and designed to be gas-fired (or spirit fired, as an alternative). The boiler is fitted with a water gauge and pressure gauge, and the safety valves are incorporated in the regular chest on top of the cylinder block. An 'automatic' blower is incorporated into the model such that when the regulator is shut the blower is 'on', but when the regulator is open and the engine running the blower is 'off'.
The exact builder of this model is unknown, however it has been finished to a high standard and incorporates a gas burner and water reserve tank. Finished in blue with red wheels and white canopy. The model is chain-driven to the rear wheels fitted with tyres.
Condition-wise the model is good with some age-related patina to paintwork. The gear change lever does have some damage where the handle has broken off so please inspect this in the photos.
The model is tight to turn and requires tweaking as it does not currently run on air. A good knowledge of model engineering would be beneficial for any prospective owner.
Generally, it makes for a very presentable and mobile model; the perfect collectors' model!
The model is accompanied with full build instructions (Part 1 - 38). No boiler paperwork included.
Total length is 60cm, total width is 18cm and total height is 22cm. Weight is just under 5kg.
