(Pre-owned) 2″ scale Durham & North Yorkshire Traction Engine - Steam Engine

Offered for sale is an attractive example of the 2″ scale Durham & North Yorkshire, based on the diminutive, early design from the late 1800s. The Durham & North Yorkshire is a popular miniature, being first featured by John Haining in the Model Engineer from 1978 to 1979.

As with many miniatures of this age, we don’t have information about the early history of this one. There is no historic paperwork associated with the engine which should be no issue given the boiler material. It looks to have been steamed before. The boiler is an early design, but an informal check suggests that it appears to be sound.

Key Features:

• Copper boiler of unknown origin – likely non-commercially made by the builder, as is typical. We don’t typically include commercial boiler testing within the sale of miniatures of this scale. Feel free to contact us regarding options going forward. It looks sound and is well made.
• Two-speed, single cylinder arrangement. Slide valve actuated by Stephenson’s linkage.
• Mechanical water pump and injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard. 
• Mechanical lubricator and locomotive-type pressure release valves.
• Mechanically, the engine has been built to good standard. It stands well and looks smart.
• Cosmetically, it is painted in a simplistic but effective green livery, in keeping with the style of engine.
• The wheels are fitted with original style metal strakes.

Overall, a great, entry-level miniature which could either be enjoyed in steam or left as a superb display engine.
