A fine example of a Stuart No. 5a built by the prolific model engineer, John Bertinat (1912-2012). This model is fitted with reversing gear, a gear driven boiler water feed, and displacement lubricator. It has been built to an exceptional standard and is of exhibition quality. The motionwork turns over smoothly and the paintwork has been finished to a pleasing standard. The model stands just under 15 inches tall.
Fitted with a small blue, oval plaque bearing "John Bertinat, London, Birmingham, Ludlow". John was a contributor to Model Engineer and Engineering in Miniature magazines, publishing numerous articles and exhibition his models at engineer exhibitions. A number of his models were to his own design and were adaptations of well-known Stuart Turner models. John later became head of the Mechanical Engineering Dept. at Aston Technical College.
